MOSAICOS

Mosaico é a arte de criar imagens com uma montagem de pequenos pedaços de vidro colorido, pedra ou outros materiais. Os primeiros exemplos conhecidos de mosaicos feitos de diferentes materiais foram encontrados em um prédio do templo em Ubaid, Mesopotâmia, e datados da segunda metade do 3º milênio aC.

A palavra mosaico é do italiano Mosaico derivado do latim Mosaicus e, finalmente, do significado grego do Mouseios pertencente às Musas, portanto, artístico.

Cada peça de material é uma Tessera (plural: tesserae). O espaço no meio do qual a argamassa vai é um interstício.

Andamento é a palavra usada para descrever o movimento e fluxo de Tesserae. O Opus, o latim para 'trabalho', é a forma como as peças são cortadas e colocadas.

MOSAICS

Mosaic is the art of creating images with a montage of small pieces of colored glass, stone or other materials. The earliest known examples of mosaics made of different materials were found in a temple building in Ubaid, Mesopotamia, and dating to the second half of the 3rd millennium BC.

The word mosaic is from the Italian Mosaic derived from the Latin Mosaicus, and finally from the Greek meaning of the Mouseios belonging to the Muses, therefore, artistic.

Each piece of material is a Tessera (plural: tesserae). The space in the middle of which the mortar goes is an interstice.

Stroke is the word used to describe the movement and flow of Tesserae. Opus, the Latin for 'work', is the way the pieces are cut and placed.
